Twyla Tharp Dance: Diamond Jubilee

Revolutionary choreographer Twyla Tharp celebrates her 60th anniversary with a boundary-breaking program featuring two new pieces (which premiered at The Joyce Theater in February 2024) and a lively revival of Ocean’s Motion (1975).

Featuring music by rock and roll pioneer Chuck Berry, Ocean’s Motion stands the test of time as a celebration of teenagers, spilling over with youthful daring and vintage dances.

In Brel, an homage to the Belgian vocalist Jacques Brel, Tharp’s command of joyful ease and musicality shines in an introspective new solo work.

Composer Simeon ten Holt’s signature minimalist style in “Bi-Ba-Bo” intermingles with Vivaldi’s Baroque score in The Ballet Master which centers around the choreographic process. This new and complex work can only be characterized by Tharp’s signature technical precision and wit.
